Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday commissioned 233 newly completed housing units at the Abraham Adesanya Housing Estate in Ajah, bringing the total number of homes delivered under his administration to nearly 11,000 since 2019.
The mixed-development scheme, executed through a public-private partnership with Urban Shelter Limited, features one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, terraces, and semi-detached houses across Parcels A and B. Sanwo-Olu described the project as evidence that Lagos remains Africa’s most attractive real estate investment destination, noting that strategic land-equity partnerships are the fastest way to close the state’s housing deficit.
“Under our T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda, government provides the land, private partners bring funding and expertise, and we monitor quality. This model has now delivered close to 11,000 homes for low, medium, and high-income earners in just six years,” the governor said. He highlighted recent and upcoming completions, including 420 units in Ajara, Badagry commissioned last month, as well as projects in Epe (Ita Marun), Sangotedo Phase 2, Egan-Igando Clusters II & III, and Ibeshe Phase 2.
Sanwo-Olu also issued a stern warning to joint-venture partners falling behind schedule, stating that underperforming or abandoned sites are under review for possible revocation.
Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, commended Urban Shelter for professionalism and adherence to standards, describing the partnership as “a model for the nation.” He urged more developers, particularly those targeting low-income earners, to take advantage of the administration’s incentives.
Initiated in 2019, the Abraham Adesanya project represents another milestone in Lagos State’s aggressive drive to expand affordable home ownership amid rapid urbanisation.
